Hello, KASY fans! Saturday is coming and KASY is ready to put on the best Cultural Show in KASY history! Today we have for you the opportunity to meet the amazing cast of this year's show. Not only are they good-looking, but they are also excellent actors and very excited to go on stage in just two days!

KASY Cultural Show: Yale in Love: D-3

As we count down the days until April 19th, the day of our Annual Cultural Show, Cultural Chair Nayeon Kim has put together another fantastic teaser video for your viewing pleasure. Here we have the freshman boys' dance, a long standing KASY tradition that is undoubtedly one of the greatest highlights of our cultural show. Rumor has it that Co-President Richard Chung predicts this year's performance will be "extra hot".

Spring is here and that you all know what that means--it's time for the Annual KASY Cultural Show! In case you missed our Facebook event page, our Cultural Show is coming up this Saturday, April 19th, in SSS 114 at 9pm. Themed "Love Story in Yale," this year's production features a brilliant cast and amazing performances, ranging from freshman K-pop dances and spoken word to traditional Korean music. Life Beyond Yale: In the Negotiating Rooms of International Policy

On Monday, April 14th, in Linsly-Chittenden Hall Room 101, KASY hosted Dr. Donna Chung, the International Relations Officer at the US Department of Labor. The event was generously sponsored by the East Rock Institute and the Department of Ethics, Politics, and Economics at Yale University. 

At the talk, Dr. Chung shared her reflections on her time at Yale and experience working in the field of international policy and business. We had plenty of snacks (as usual), and the talk was followed by a dinner in the Fellows Lounge of Jonathan Edwards, Dr. Chung's residential college.

Upcoming event: A Conversation with Donna Chung

Presented by KASY and sponsored by the Department of Ethics, Politics, and Economics at Yale University:

Life Beyond Yale: In the Negotiating Rooms of International Policy 

Next Monday on April 14th, KASY will be hosting Dr. Donna Chung, the International Relations Officer at the U.S. Department of Labor.

Dr. Chung will speak about her time at Yale as well as her experience working in business and international policy.

The event will take place in Linsly Chittenden Hall Room 101 from 4:00-5:15. Everyone is invited to the talk! The talk will then be followed by a dinner in Jonathan Edwards College. Seating for dinner is limited to 16, and it will happen on a first come first serve basis.

Latest News @ KASY

Spring is just around the corner, and we are so excited for all the KASY events happening the last month of school. But before we reveal the next big event coming up next Saturday, here is a recap of all our activities in Spring 2014: 

First General Meeting 
Our first general meeting took place on Tuesday, January 28th, in Linsly-Chittenden Hall. We began with the board member presentation, in which each board member presented his/her role as a board member and his/her goals for the semester. After several announcements, we held a vicious, tournament-style Cham Cham Cham contest. 

Below, Juli Cho (’15), former KASY president and the final winner of the contest, proudly holds up the much coveted gift card to Froyoworld. Our general meetings are always full of people, energy, and Korean food—come check us out to meet the fantastic group of Koreans and Korean Americans at Yale.   



We (of course) provided lots of Korean food and snacks, including dumplings and kimbab. For those of you thinking #picsordidnthappen, here is a picture of freshman babies on KASY board in front of the food. That is how seriously we take our food; that is how seriously we take KASY. 

(There may or may not have been some EXO-playing at the end of the meeting.)  


Lunar New Year Dduk-gook Event 

On February 1^st, KASY and Hanppuri members gathered at the Asian American Cultural Center for the annual dduk-gook (rice cake soup for Korean New Year) event. An old Korean saying has it that one needs to eat a bowl of dduk-gook to mature and grow older. In line with this Korean tradition, KASY and Hanppuri treated members of the Yale community to a nice warm meal that would help fight the cold weather outside. 

Here is a picture of Co-President Seyoung Lee and Cultural Chair Nayeon Kim holding a delicious bowl of gomyong, or toppings that go on the dduk-gook. 

Just a couple of friendly people you meet when you go to KASY events: at KASY, it's all smiles on smiles on smiles. 

Dat atmosphere, tho. So cozy. So inviting. 

Korean RomCom Night

On February 15^th, we had a Korean RomCom night in Berkeley Mendenhall Room. We watched Finding Mr. Destiny, or 김종욱 찾기, starring Gong Yoo and Im Su-jeong. As always, we provided Korean snacks and Valentine’s Day themed goodies for the lonely souls seeking company of warm-hearted friends. Here are two of our Korean film enthusiasts holding their favorite Korean snacks! 

And check out the cupcakes that Nayeon baked for the event--whether it is a lonely Valentine’s Day weekend or an unproductive night, KASY is always here to help people relax and enjoy their time at Yale. Always remember, you don't have to be Korean or Korean American to come to our events! 

Who knew true love could appear in the form of cupcakes? 

Adopted Friends

The first day of March was our biggest event yet: Adopted Friends, an annual KASY event that invites adopted Korean children from the nearby communities to spend a day of fun activities with KASY members and fellow Yalies. It is an excellent way for adopted children and their families to learn more about Korean culture, not to mention the fantastic lunch provided by the US Han Kook Mountain Club. This year, the activities ranged from Yutnol-Yi (Korean traditional board game) and Taekwondo lessons to Korean song learning, among many other performances, talks, and activities.

You know it's a good day when...

#1) There is a delicious luncheon, prepared for you by the US Han Kook Moutain Club. So many friends. So much food. So much love. 

#2) Rainbow ricecakes. It's officially a #pahhhty #childhood #love #cantlivewithout

#3) Perfect weather, perfect friends. Big Sibs and Little Sibs enjoy the nice day outside. You might think that they look cold, but they are warm from the love they feel deep inside. Just look how happy they are! 

#4) You build new friendships. Here is our lovely volunteer with her Little Sib and his father (in matching shirts)--is this the most adorable thing you have ever seen or what? 

As we close, we would like to thank everyone who participated in Adopted Friends Spring 2014. We had a fantastic time, and we hope to see you again next year! A big thank you goes out to the US Han Kook Mountain Club, as well as to Community Chair Téa Beer for all her hard work.
